Job Description
We are actively seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Engineering to spearhead our engineering department and lead a talented team of engineers specializing in electrical design for mission-critical projects, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities. As the Director of Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction of our projects, ensuring engineering excellence, and fostering innovation within our organization.
Education
- BSEE minimum preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- For an outstanding candidate we will support your ability to obtain a license in 1-2 years.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of engineers dedicated to electrical design across various project types, maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.
- Oversee arc flash coordination and short circuit studies, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Independently manage Neher-McGrath studies for heat dissipation and duct banks, ensuring optimal system performance and reliability.
- Provide support for modular designs and integrations with other engineering disciplines to enhance overall project effectiveness.
- Collaborate closely with the BIM team, facilitating efficient design workflows, addressing design and code-related issues, and enhancing project efficiency.
- Contribute to project planning, risk management, and decision-making processes, ensuring successful project execution and timely delivery.
- Cultivate a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing within the engineering department.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align engineering efforts with broader company goals and initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills
- In-depth industry knowledge and experience in electrical design for mission-critical projects, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including planning, execution, and monitoring of engineering projects.
- Budgeting and financial management acumen to ensure projects are executed within budget constraints.

Job Description
Allison-Smith Company is seeking a qualified entry to mid-level design engineer position for our growing Modular Solutions division. We are seeking a motivated individual with knowledge of weldments and sheet metal component design in SolidWorks. This individual will collaborate with our team to design and prefabricated critical electrical distribution assemblies, prefabricated data centers, and e-houses.
The position will be based at our new West Atlanta, GA location. While the nature of the work often requires responsibilities to be performed in person, there will be opportunities for remote work as tasks allow.
The ideal candidate will be professional, self-motivated, and enjoy problem solving while having a sound understanding of engineering fundamentals and strong communication skills. The candidate should be comfortable working with teams at all levels from office staff to shop employees.
Candidates will be expected to complete a drawing and SolidWorks test during the interview process.
Role and Responsibilities
- Design engineering and drafting
- Develop preliminary layouts in AutoCAD
- Develop detailed designs in SolidWorks
- Develop fabrication and assembly drawings in SolidWorks
- Perform structural simulations of designs
- Ability to successfully interact across departments

Role and Responsibilities
- Proficiency in interpreting one-line electrical diagrams, demonstrating understanding and knowledge of symbols, components, and the overall flow of electrical systems presented in a simplified format. This skill is crucial for effective troubleshooting, maintenance, and ensuring the proper functionality of electrical systems.
- Compile, review, and submit commissioning documentation.
- Develop and manage electrical commissioning plans on a variety of projects
- Experience with commercial medium voltage & low voltage systems.
- Knowledge of electrical testing procedures and expected results.
- Load bank testing.
- PQM Testing
- Manage commissioning related issues.
- Manage live energization single-line diagrams.
- Meet with project stakeholders to discuss commissioning activities, report on progress, and request adequate commissioning time.
- Participate in Factory Witness Testing of electrical equipment including Switchboards, Transformers, Diesel Generators, and Uninterruptible Power Systems.
- Perform risk analysis for commissioning activities – both for adjacent equipment in service and upstream equipment that may be affected by commissioning activities.
- Review project documentation (electrical drawings and submittals) to determine how the system should perform.
- Schedule commissioning activities to fit into the project schedule.
- Write and run MOP (method of procedure) documents.
- Additional roles and responsibilities as required by the project needs.

We take great pride in our engineering approach to the construction business, and project managers can expect to be involved with project from the design phase (design-build and design-assist) all the way through the application of the design and completion of the project. Project types include commercial, electrical, industrial, and mechanical engineering, modular solutions, technology, and telecommunications.
Some project managers are licensed professional engineers. This gives unlicensed project managers the opportunity to enhance his or her knowledge through peer-to-peer interaction. In addition to the daily interaction with peers and senior project managers, who serve as a daily mentor to support growth as a project manager, we have weekly project manager meetings, monthly project financial reviews, and semi-annual employee reviews.
Role and Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will assist the lead project manager in:
- all phases of electrical work including project acquisition (identification, estimating strategy, cost/proposal development, negotiation, value engineering, site logistics review, pre-fabrication planning),
- project preconstruction (team development, planning, procurement),
- project construction (scheduling, team/relationship building, change management, issue resolution, cost projections, billing),
- project close-out (final documentation, owner training, contract reconciliation, final billing).
